Final Statement of Intent

In my A-level coursework song I am planning to use visual denotations and connotations to portray the message that the artist is trying to create. The target audience that I am trying to reach are people between the age of 16-25 who are socially aware about what is going on in the world and they need to grow up adopting the message that the media should not influence what you think about and worry about within life and that you should express your own opinion on what is going on in society. This will be conveyed through the mise-en-scene as it will be mainly focused on the media itself and it's impact on society and what it chooses to convey. I will also present a family environment as I want to express that it is not just one group that is being targeted by this music video but people of different generations as media can impact anyone; however, the second demographic that I will be focusing one will be older teenagers as they are the generation who are stereotyped as being always...

first 5 sections to my video

The first 6 seconds of the music video will show this wooden plaque that protesters use to convey the genre of the song. The music will be cut to the beat and the bands name will be drawn across the banners to show they support this protest. The next section of my music video will have a TV screen relaying news and when the beat cuts it will change channels which will present how this type of news is worldwide and that it is not covering the most important news. This will last for 7 seconds. The next section of my music video will of my leaving the transition between the previous shot will be a cut and the video will cut around the room will my family sitting there. This is to portray the family demographic. This shot will then transition to me sitting on the sofa lip syncing to the camera (8 seconds) The  next section will have the TV screen showing the impact of global warming and the messages that the media does not want to show you. (6 seconds)

Story plan for the video

The overall message that I am willing to convey in my story is that of the media and how they create a bubble that encloses us and lulls us into a false sense of security or creates a sense of paranoia without presenting the full story from different perspectives. For example, when they focused more on political decisions such as Brexit instead of focusing on global warming and the changes in that is happening within the Arctic. My video will illustrate these problems be juxtaposed with the image of news and what they are showing. The narrative will follow this teenager who is growing up in a world surrounded by these news and how that is distracting us from other situations that are damaging the earth around us. This is one of the demographics that I will be targeting. Another demographic will be family as this message needs to be conveyed up through generations as adults need to tell their children and children need to be brought up to have their own views instead of being influenced...

They are outside. Sense of freedom and escape. Happy and united together. Open and welcoming. They are wearing normal clothes which can relate to the audience as conveys this normal everyday person. Pictures with the fans. This relates to the teenage audience as most of their fans are teenage audiences.

Treatment

Within my music video, my target audience will be firstly teenagers. This will be conveyed through the main character being played by a teenage boy. However, I will be targeting another demographic which will be families; this will be illustrated through the mise-en-scene. The mise-en-scene will include visual denotations such as the video will be set in a family environment which creates this bond between generations and presents the message of unity and also that the media impacts anybody no matter who you are or how old you are. For the website; however, I will be implementing pictures of fans, who have attended concerts hosted by the bands to creates this idea of unity and togetherness but also I will make so to have various different people from different demographics to represent these demographics as the message being conveyed should target everyone. New logo

I have chosen this design for my band/logo as it encapsulates what the video is all about. The skeleton in the middle connotes humanity as a skeleton is the basic mould for human life. Therefore, it relates to the audience as it's the concept of humanity itself. The blue in the logo represents freedom and the red represents revolution and how the band can make a 'difference' within society and change e.g. revolutionise on what the media tells it's audience.

For my video I am planning to relate to an older teenage audience as well a conveying this sense of family and that the problem will occur through our generations if we do not do anything about it. I will have a shot of a living room to convey a family feel as this is where families go to relax so that is where the family audience will relate to and therefore, will feel as though the video is related to them. Also by using a household, there could also be that connotation of it being a confined space just like the media creating this bubble of what people want to heat instead of exposing them to the harsh realities of the world. Another location that I will be using is the countryside as it creates this sense of freedom and escapism from the media and you can be whoever you want to be out there.
