Final Statement of Intent

In my A-level coursework song I am planning to use visual denotations and connotations to portray the message that the artist is trying to create. The target audience that I am trying to reach are people between the age of 16-25 who are socially aware about what is going on in the world and they need to grow up adopting the message that the media should not influence what you think about and worry about within life and that you should express your own opinion on what is going on in society. This will be conveyed through the mise-en-scene as it will be mainly focused on the media itself and it's impact on society and what it chooses to convey. I will also present a family environment as I want to express that it is not just one group that is being targeted by this music video but people of different generations as media can impact anyone; however, the second demographic that I will be focusing one will be older teenagers as they are the generation who are stereotyped as being always on the phone and on some sort of media platform. The music video will contain a variety of locations to illustrate the theme of the video and also relating to the target audience as well. For example I will be using a household location as the main setting as it connotes this family genre, relating to our target audience. Other locations that I will be using will be various fields which will be used for my acting purposes such as lip syncing to the song used and the seaside to illustrate a sense of freedom and escapism from society. My intertextual reference will be the training scene from Rocky to convey the sense that anything is possible. Also, I will include references to the original band Bastille with references to their music video within mine. I have chosen the artist of Bastille as I enjoy there music and also I agree with the message that they are trying to presented in the lyrics of the song as it expresses the idea that the media are obsessed with current news stories the involve politicians but do not focus on long term aspects such as environmental changes which I plan to convey through shots of newspaper headlines that focus away from this. Also, I have chosen Bastille as it relates to my demographic as most of their songs are aimed towards older teenagers and young adults.

For the website that I will be creating, I plan to use codes and convention to enforce what the music video will be about and how we can do something about it. The two working pages that I will include will be the home page and a merchandise page. The homepage will be a ticking clock which has representations of freedom and that time is running out if we do not act. Also, within the homepage I will have a small clip of the music video that I will be creating. It will also include other albums that Bastille have done and tour dates. On the about the artist page, I will include segments about the artist and what genre of music they are. Also, I will include their social media accounts and how to contact them. The menu bar will be designed to help people who are visiting the website to find what they need. This will be kept up-to-date and surrounding the boarder of the website there will be pictures of fans who have attended concerts as advertisements that are within online newspapers.

A media product needs to illustrate what the brand is and hold that brand image that is trying to be created. This will be achieved by linking the music video and the website together by using for example colour schemes, fonts, visual codes etc. to build this identity that will be created. There will be links to the band social media accounts and pages on both the video and the website to promote the artist. I will be using social media as the main form of promotion as technology is growing rapidly and more people have access to many social media platforms; furthermore, my main target audience are stereotypically known for being on social media and therefore, will build the brands image and the bands reputation.
